🗓️Best time to visit

Thailand has three seasons, not two: cool and dry (November–February), the clear winner; hot (March–May), pushing 35–40°C; and the southwest monsoon (June–October). But the rule inverts on the Gulf of Thailand coast — Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are wettest in October–December, making them the smart alternative in June–September when Phuket and Krabi are getting rain. A genuine health caveat: the northern agricultural burning season (February–April) pushes Chiang Mai's air quality to harmful levels — avoid it if you are travelling with children or anyone asthmatic.

🕌 For the Muslim traveler

Halal food: Halal restaurants are common in Bangkok and Phuket, especially in Arab/Muslim quarters (Nana, Soi Arab).

Prayer places: Mosques in major cities and the Muslim-majority south; prayer rooms in main airports.

Friday is an official holiday: No

🌙Ramadan & Eid

No impact on general life — Thailand isn't Muslim and restaurants run as usual. Bangkok's Muslim quarters (Nana, Soi Arab) come alive at iftar, and the Muslim south fasts and celebrates Eid.

🎭Culture tips

Respect for the monarchy is legally enforced. Remove shoes in temples and homes; never touch anyone's head.

💳Cards & payments

Cards work at malls and hotels, but markets, street food, and taxis are cash. Withdraw at bank-branch ATMs (~220 THB fee on foreign cards). Always pay in baht — decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC) when paying by card.

📲Apps & internet

Grab is essential for rides and delivery. Bolt is cheaper in Bangkok. The BTS Skytrain app for the metro. All global services work without restrictions.

🚗Driving there

Traffic keeps to the LEFT side of the road — opposite to the Gulf! (steering wheel on the right) IDP mandatory. Motorbikes are the #1 tourist-injury source — skip them. In Bangkok trains beat any car.

💵Tipping culture

Not mandatory; leaving the change or THB 20–50 at restaurants is appreciated.

📶SIM & eSIM

AIS and True airport tourist packs are decent (~USD 10 / 15 days). Easy eSIM.

🚇Getting around

Bangkok's BTS/MRT are excellent; Grab available; cheap domestic flights to islands.

💰 Approximate cost

Budget-friendly: roughly SAR 150–400 per person per day.

🛡️ Safety

Safe on its tourist circuits (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai) — beware the common scams (tuk-tuk and gem scams). But the Cambodian border zone (Surin, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani and all land crossings) has seen armed conflict since July 2025, with a fragile December 2025 ceasefire and a standing US embassy security alert — avoid it entirely; this has no bearing on the main tourist destinations far from it.

⚠️ Key laws before you travel

Insulting the monarchy is a major crime with long prison terms. Vapes are completely banned — confiscated at the airport, with fines up to jail time. Smoking is banned on most beaches.

ℹ️ Laws change — verify with official sources; this is not legal advice.

💊 Restricted medications

Some pseudoephedrine cold medicines and sedatives are controlled — carry a documented prescription and keep meds in original packaging.

⚠️ Guidance only — always verify with the official source before traveling.

🆘 Emergency & your embassy

👥The Gulf traveler experience there

An honest digest from Gulf travelers' experiences — community-maintained and continuously updated.

Treatment is tourist-professional and service comes with a smile. Bangkok's Nana and Soi Arab areas are fully Gulf-oriented (Arabic restaurants and signage). Official dual pricing for foreigners exists at some attractions — not Gulf-specific targeting.
