Families: riverside resorts along the Kok River, a short 10-15 min ride from downtown, tend to offer bigger pools, sometimes kids' clubs, and more quiet. Couples: the same riverside area suits a calmer, scenic stay. Budget travelers: staying near the Clock Tower puts restaurants, markets, and scooter rentals within walking distance at lower prices.

White Temple entry fee doubled in early 2026 (~22 SAR now) — budget for it. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) at every temple. If renting a scooter, use a reputable shop near the Clock Tower, photograph the bike's condition before you take it to avoid damage disputes at return, and confirm insurance coverage. Sights are spread out (some 30-60km apart), so a private driver or organized tour is easier for families than relying purely on scooters. Carry enough cash for the Golden Triangle and border markets, where card payment is unreliable. Avoid midday at the White Temple — Chiang Mai day-tour buses arrive in large numbers around noon.

1. Day 1: Arrive in Chiang Rai, settle in, evening at the Clock Tower and Night Bazaar with halal dinner near the mosque area
2. Day 2: Full day for the three temples - White Temple early, then the Black House, and the Blue Temple before sunset
3. Day 3 (optional): Day trip to the Golden Triangle and Hall of Opium, or a quieter alternative — Singha Park and a light hike to Khun Korn Waterfall
