The world's #1 destination: Paris and its museums, the French Riviera, Provence villages, and the Alps — too much for one trip, with a strong Gulf presence on the Champs-Élysées each summer.

🗓️Best time to visit

April–June and September–October are best for weather and prices; July–August is peak (and very Gulf-popular); the Riviera shines in summer.

🕌 For the Muslim traveler

Halal food: Widely available in Paris (Champs-Élysées, Latin Quarter), Marseille and Lyon; check certification outside Arab restaurants.

Prayer places: The Grand Mosque of Paris plus prayer spaces in most big cities; apps locate the nearest.

Friday is an official holiday: No

🌙Ramadan & Eid

No general schedule changes; Paris's big mosques hold taraweeh and Latin-Quarter restaurants know iftar.

🎭Culture tips

Open with Bonjour before any request — it genuinely changes the interaction. Restaurants close between lunch and dinner (14:30–19:00); tipping optional (service included).

💳Cards & payments

Cards everywhere (contactless standard); cash barely needed. Apple Pay widespread. Key apps: Bonjour RATP, Uber, G7 taxis.

📲Apps & internet

Everything works. Uber and Bolt in cities, Citymapper is best for the Paris metro, SNCF Connect for intercity trains.

🚗Driving there

Traffic keeps to the right side of the road, as in the Gulf (steering wheel on the left). An IDP is strongly advised with your license. Paris needs no car (parking is scarce and dear) — rent for the Riviera and countryside only.

💵Tipping culture

Service is legally included — rounding up or a euro or two suffices.

📶SIM & eSIM

Orange Holiday at the airport (~EUR 40) or cheaper eSIMs via apps. Excellent coverage.

🚇Getting around

TGV trains link cities fast (book early for fares), the Paris metro covers everything; drive only in the countryside.

💰 Approximate cost

Good Paris hotel EUR 150–300, restaurant meal EUR 20–40, metro ~EUR 2.2. Countryside and off-season south cost clearly less.

🛡️ Safety

Generally safe but pickpocketing is rife around Paris landmarks and the metro — no phones/wallets in outer pockets, avoid street petitions and games.

⚠️ Key laws before you travel

Full face coverings are banned in public by a general French law (fine). Close-up photography of people without consent can bring liability. Drones over 250g need registration.

ℹ️ Laws change — verify with official sources; this is not legal advice.

💊 Restricted medications

Since December 2024, pseudoephedrine cold meds (Actifed, Humex, Dolirhume) once sold freely now need a prescription in France. Codeine and tramadol require a secure prescription; methylphenidate (Ritalin), benzodiazepines, morphine and fentanyl need a Schengen certificate via ANSM. Melatonin over 2mg is prescription-only; CBD is legal only under 0.3% THC.

⚠️ Guidance only — always verify with the official source before traveling.

🆘 Emergency & your embassy

Unified emergency: 112

Your embassy (🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia): طوارئ السعوديين بالخارج / Saudi emergencies abroad: 00966920033334 — الرقم الموحد للخدمات / services: 00966920011114 — أقرب سفارة وأرقامها المحلية / nearest mission & local numbers: saudiembassy.sa + تطبيق MOFA

👥The Gulf traveler experience there

An honest digest from Gulf travelers' experiences — community-maintained and continuously updated.

Champs-Élysées and Galeries Lafayette are Gulf-familiar in summer; Arabic is heard around Paris. Service warms up when you open with Bonjour.
