⚠️Tips & warnings
Honesty first: pickpocketing around Eiffel, the Louvre and the metro is real and tourist-targeted — don't carry your passport, and dodge petition clipboards and the 'found ring' trick. Distances deceive: expect 15k+ steps a day, and restaurant service can feel brusque — it isn't personal.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The metro beats any car — Navigo Easy cards top up at stations, and Bonjour RATP maps routes. Uber/Bolt run fine; taxis only from official ranks. A car here is a burden, not an asset.
Halal & prayer places: Paris is Europe's easiest halal capital: high density around the 8th (Champs-Élysées) and the Opéra/Saint-Denis stretch, with Gulf-famous restaurants off the Champs. The Grand Mosque of Paris (5th) with its restaurant is a sight in itself.
Local safety: Violent crime against tourists is rare, but pickpocketing and organised scams are Paris's signature risk. Be especially alert at Gare du Nord, the Châtelet–Les Halles interchange, Metro line 4, and around the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre. The 'friendship-bracelet' hustle at Sacré-Cœur, plus petition and dropped-ring scams, are common; keep your bag closed and in front of you and carry little cash.
