🎭Culture tips

Book Plitvice timed tickets online, and walk Dubrovnik's walls early to beat heat and crowds.

💳Cards & payments

Euro since 2023; cards common. Apps: Bolt, Arriva buses.

📲Apps & internet

Everything works. Uber and Bolt cover cities and the summer coast. Book Jadrolinija ferries in-app early in season.

🚗Driving there

Traffic keeps to the right side of the road, as in the Gulf (steering wheel on the left). A car is the best way to do the coast — superb roads, scenic throughout. IDP advised.

💵Tipping culture

Rounding up or ~10% at restaurants is customary.

📶SIM & eSIM

Hrvatski Telekom and A1 — tourist bundles (~EUR 15). Good coast and island coverage.

🚇Getting around

A car is best (great roads, stunning views); ferries reach islands from Split.

💰 Approximate cost

Good summer hotel EUR 100–200, meal EUR 12–25. Dubrovnik costs clearly more.

🛡️ Safety

Very safe; just pack water shoes for rocky beaches and mind currents at some islands.

⚠️ Key laws before you travel

Drones are restricted over old Dubrovnik. Driving barefoot/in flip-flops is fined. [verify] seasonal walled-city entry fees.

ℹ️ Laws change — verify with official sources; this is not legal advice.

💊 Restricted medications

Croatia splits meds into two tiers: regular medicines get a one-month allowance with a prescription, but narcotic-listed drugs — codeine, diazepam/alprazolam (Valium/Xanax), and ADHD stimulants like Ritalin/Adderall — are capped at 5 days with certified medical documents. Tramadol isn't controlled here, unlike the UAE — check Croatia's Customs Administration site.
