🗓️Best time to visit
May–June and September–October, strictly; July–August with the cruise ships is genuinely not recommended.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- The full wall walk (2h — go early)
- The Stradun and old city
- Mount Srđ cable car at sunset
- Lokrum island or kayaking below the walls
🏨Where to stay
Inside the walls is unique (stairs, noise, luggage pain); family-friendly Lapad on the beach rests easier and cheaper.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Check the cruise schedule and plan against it — a three-ship day means unwalkable lanes. Inside-wall prices double the town's, and halal is near-absent.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The Old Town is fully closed to cars — every vehicle stops outside the walls and the last stretch is always on foot. Libertas city buses link the outer neighborhoods (Lapad, Ploče, Gruž) to the Old Town, with a driver ticket at €2.50 or a cheaper €1.73 from a kiosk, and a day ticket at €5.31. The airport is ~20km out: an official shuttle bus (€10 one-way, €15 return) stops at Ploče Gate and the main bus station roughly 30 minutes after each arriving flight. Uber and Bolt operate but, unlike licensed taxis, lack permits to approach the walls closely, so they typically drop off a 5–10 minute walk from the gates.
Halal & prayer places: Modest but real amid heavy general tourism. Taj Mahal, near the Dubrovnik Mosque, is a well-known halal option serving Bosnian dishes, with a couple of smaller additions nearby (Tuttobene, Subito Cafe) close to the mosque. The Dubrovnik Islamic Center has a prayer hall and separate women's ablution facilities, but this small mosque-adjacent cluster is essentially the entire halal scene in the city — it doesn't extend beyond that narrow radius.

Cost figures: 2026 prices: casual meal €10–20 (roughly double inside the Old Town walls), mid-range restaurant €25–45 per person, Libertas bus ticket €1.73–2.50 and a day ticket €5.31, full City Walls entry ~€35, Mount Srđ cable car round trip ~€27–30.
