Azerbaijan packs several climates into a small area: Baku on the Caspian is semi-arid, and the constant wind behind its "city of winds" nickname also keeps its summers milder than the interior. The real variable is altitude — Gabala, Guba and Shahdag in the Greater Caucasus hold 18–25°C through July and August while Baku passes 33°C, which is precisely why they draw Gulf visitors in summer. April–June and September–October are the best of the year for combining city and mountain. March brings Novruz, marking the arrival of spring — a busy local season when prices rise.

A secular Muslim country — Baku restaurants operate normally by day. Ramadan is present at the major mosques, and Eid (Ramazan Bayramı) is an official holiday when some shops may close for a day.

Secular in character despite the Muslim majority. Tea is central to hospitality — refusing may seem cold. English thins outside Baku and some taxi drivers overquote tourists — use the apps.

Cards are accepted at Baku malls and hotels; cash (manat) is needed for taxis and areas outside the capital. ATMs are common.

Bolt is the main ride app in Baku. All global services work without restrictions.

Traffic keeps to the right side of the road, as in the Gulf (steering wheel on the left). An IDP is advised; rentals exist but daily drivers are cheap enough that many prefer them.

10% customary at restaurants; not expected in taxis.

Azercell at the airport is quick (~USD 10–15). Major carriers support eSIM.
