🗓️Best time to visit
Britain is a changeable maritime climate: rain is possible in any month, and the seasons differ more in temperature and daylight than in wet versus dry. June–August is the Gulf season not only for the mildest weather (18–24°C) but because daylight stretches past half nine in the evening in the far north, effectively doubling what fits into a day. Scotland runs clearly colder and wetter than London, which is worth factoring into any itinerary. August is crowded, carrying both the Edinburgh Fringe and the Notting Hill Carnival, and Trafalgar Square hosts an annual Eid festival.
🕌 For the Muslim traveler
Halal food: Very wide halal options in London, Manchester, and Birmingham, from fine dining to street food.
Prayer places: Major mosques in big cities (London Central Mosque at Regent's Park) and prayer rooms in large malls.
Friday is an official holiday: No
🌙Ramadan & Eid
No impact on public life. London's big mosques host large iftars, Trafalgar Square holds an annual Eid festival, and halal restaurants get busy at iftar in areas like Edgware Road.
🎭Culture tips
Queues are sacred and punctuality matters. Stand on the right on Tube escalators.
💳Cards & payments
You barely need cash — contactless covers everything including the Tube and buses (tap your bank card directly).
📲Apps & internet
Uber and Bolt work, and Citymapper is the best London transit app. All services work without restrictions.
🚗Driving there
Traffic keeps to the LEFT side of the road — opposite to the Gulf! (steering wheel on the right) Your Saudi license is legally valid for 12 months from entry — no IDP needed. London needs no car at all (congestion charges bite); rent only for the countryside and Scotland.
💵Tipping culture
A 12.5% service charge is usually added in London restaurants; nothing on top. Round up taxis.
📶SIM & eSIM
Giffgaff, Vodafone, EE — generous bundles (~GBP 15). Easy eSIM; airport kiosks exist but city shops are cheaper.
🚇Getting around
The Tube covers everything (tap your bank card); fast intercity trains.
💰 Approximate cost
Expensive: roughly SAR 500–1000 per person per day in London.
ℹ️ Prices are approximate and subject to change
🛡️ Safety
Generally safe; beware phone-snatching by bike in central London.
⚠️ Key laws before you travel
Carrying any knife in public is an offense (even small pocket knives). Drones are restricted near airports and crowded areas.
ℹ️ Laws change — verify with official sources; this is not legal advice.
💊 Restricted medications
Melatonin is prescription-only in the UK (unlike Gulf countries) — you cannot buy it over the counter. Codeine, tramadol, diazepam and ADHD stimulants (Ritalin/Adderall) are controlled: carry up to a 3-month supply with a doctor's letter, or a Home Office personal licence for more.
⚠️ Guidance only — always verify with the official source before traveling.
🆘 Emergency & your embassy

👥The Gulf traveler experience there
An honest digest from Gulf travelers' experiences — community-maintained and continuously updated.
Neutral-professional treatment; the Gulf presence is very familiar in London (Edgware Road and Knightsbridge feel half-Arab in summer). Outside big cities Gulf visitors are less common but rarely hassled. Watch for bike-riding phone snatchers in central London.
