🗓️Best time to visit
May–June and September–October are best: warm weather (22–28°C), swimmable seas, and lighter crowds than peak. July–August is very crowded and expensive. Early morning (7–9am) is the best window to see the Palace empty before cruise-ship crowds disembark.

🏨Where to stay
Staying inside the Palace walls is a unique experience but noisy at night; the adjacent Varoš district is quieter and equally close. Stay nearest the ferry terminal if the islands are on the itinerary.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Split functions more as a transit hub than a final destination for most visitors — a day to a day and a half covers the city itself before heading to the islands or Plitvice. Book the Hvar ferry in advance in July–August; it sells out.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The Old Town is entirely walkable — the Palace itself is car-free. Promet Split buses cover the suburbs for ~€2 from the driver (cheaper from a kiosk). The ferry and bus station sit right beside the Old Town (a 10-minute walk from the Palace), and every island ferry (Hvar, Brač, Vis) departs from there. The airport is ~20km out: the official Platanus shuttle (€10 one-way, €15 return, ~30 min) runs after every arriving flight, or public bus 37 (~€3, 55–60 min), or a taxi/Bolt (€25–50).
Halal & prayer places: Modest but real. The small Split Masjid (Cosmijeva 1) serves the local community with a separate women's prayer area. A handful of declared-halal kebab spots (Kebab House, Kebabsito), and grilled fish is always a safe default at any traditional Dalmatian restaurant. Don't expect density here — this is a European coast, not a halal hub.

Cost figures: 2026 prices: casual meal (pizza/local marenda) €8–16, mid-range restaurant (fish/pašticada) €12–22 a main, 3-star hotel ~$119/night (up to $246 in July), hostel €25–45, local bus ticket ~€2, airport shuttle €10.
