🗓️Best time to visit
May–September; a perfect stop between Vienna and Zell am See.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- Hohensalzburg by funicular
- Getreidegasse and Mozart's birthplace
- Mirabell gardens
- Day trip: Hallstatt or Lake Wolfgang
🏨Where to stay
The old town charms with small dear rooms; the right bank (Mirabell side) balances well.
⚠️Tips & warnings
One busy day covers the sights — but nearby Hallstatt drowns in midday crowds; go before 9 or after 4. The rock-tunnel car parks are pricey.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: Salzburg Airport is just 4km from the center; trolleybus Line 2 runs to the main station and old town (~20–25 min, single ticket ~€2.50–2.90) or Line 10 goes direct to the old town and funicular base. The old town itself is almost entirely walkable; the electric trolleybus (Obus) network covers the rest, with a full-day ticket around €6. The Salzburg Card (~€35/24h) bundles public transport with the fortress, funicular and most museums.
Halal & prayer places: A modest but real halal scene — roughly 19 restaurants city-wide are listed as halal or halal-friendly, mostly Turkish and South Asian (kebab, Indian) with a few Italian options, concentrated more around the main station and side neighborhoods than the tourist-heavy old town. Several active mosques and prayer rooms exist (including an Islamic cultural center and a Bosnian prayer space), though they're smaller and less prominent than Vienna's larger mosques.
