Best May-September (dry season); July-August bring the calmest seas and most reliable weather, ideal for boat trips and snorkeling. Avoid January-February (heaviest rain). April and October are good shoulder months - fewer crowds, better prices, still decent weather.

🏨Where to stay
Families: Senggigi (calm, kid-friendly water; beachfront resorts) or the newer Mandalika/Kuta resort area. Couples: Gili Air or Gili Meno for quiet boutique stays away from Gili Trawangan's noise. Budget: Kuta Lombok guesthouses, or Senaru if Rinjani trekking is the main goal.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Unofficial taxi drivers at the airport may quote 3-5x the real fare - use Grab/Gojek or firmly agree on a price before getting in. At Bangsal harbor (boats to the Gilis), buy tickets only from the official counter; touts intercept tourists and charge double or more. Rinjani trekking requires a licensed guide from a proper registered operator - there are documented cases of unofficial guides abandoning climbers mid-trek or skimping on gear. Motorbike rental shops sometimes claim damage that wasn't there on return to keep your deposit - photograph the bike's condition before riding off. Watch your change in cash transactions at markets and small shops, especially with large bills. Gili Trawangan is known for its nightlife and alcohol scene - if you want a calm, family atmosphere, Gili Air or Meno is the better pick. Dress modestly when visiting mosques and Sade traditional village.

Getting around: Fly into Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (Praya, LOP), with direct flights from a few regional hubs or via Jakarta/Bali. Locally, Grab and Gojek work well in Mataram, Senggigi, and Kuta; renting a scooter gives more flexibility for longer distances, while a private car with driver suits full-day waterfall and south-coast tours. To reach the Gili Islands: boats from Bangsal or Teluk Nara harbors - no cars or motorbikes on the islands themselves, only bicycles and horse-drawn "cidomo" carts.
Halal & prayer places: Very high - Lombok's population is majority-Muslim Sasak, and halal is the default, not the exception. There are 150+ certified-halal restaurants, mosques found from city centers to mountain villages, and a roughly 200-capacity prayer hall at the airport. Markedly easier than neighboring Bali for halal food and prayer access; major resorts in Senggigi and Mandalika commonly provide prayer rooms and qibla markers in guest rooms.

Cost figures: Airport taxi to Kuta Lombok ~30 SAR, to Senggigi ~60 SAR (or via Grab/Gojek ~30-45 SAR). A warung meal costs 8-14 SAR; a mid-range halal restaurant meal 25-45 SAR. Scooter rental runs 15-20 SAR/day. The official Bangsal-to-Gili boat ticket is ~6 SAR one-way (note: touts often quote 2-3x that). Budget guesthouses run 40-80 SAR/night, mid-range hotels 90-180 SAR/night, and beach resorts 350+ SAR/night. A full-day waterfall tour with driver/guide runs roughly 110-190 SAR per group.

- Day 3: South coast - Tanjung Aan beach, Pink Beach, and Sade traditional village
