📸Top activities & landmarks

  • The complex Gelati Monastery
  • The spectacular Prometheus Caves
  • Imereti's lush green nature and rolling hills
  • The State Museum of Kutaisi

🏨Where to stay

Stay in the historic center; small comfortable hotels around Davit Aghmashenebeli Square.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Gelati and Bagrati are close together — doable as a half-day visit. Book a Prometheus Caves tour ahead if you want organized transport.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: From Tbilisi: direct bus ~3.5 hours (8–12 GEL), or a day/night train (comfortable, slightly cheaper). The only nearby international airport is Tbilisi (140 km). Within Kutaisi: local bus ~0.5 GEL, and the historic center walks easily. Reaching Prometheus Caves requires a local taxi or organized tour (~20–30 min).

Halal & prayer places: Modest but real — an active religious scene but not a major halal hub. Kutaisi's main mosque (mihrab and prayer hall) exists and is active, with some locally-known halal spots (Turkish places on Mekhsiti Street), but the selection is thinner than Batumi or Tbilisi.

Local safety: Same as country →
