May–June and September–early October: mild, sunny, riverside terraces at their best. July–August is hot (often 35°C+) and busy in the region's festival season. Winter is cold and damp but festive and cheaper.

🏨Where to stay
Families and quiet: Vračar and Dorćol — upscale, central, away from club noise. Walkable, everything nearby: Stari Grad (Old Town) around Knez Mihailova. Local riverside feel: Zemun is calmer and cheaper but a bit farther out. Avoid rooms right over the river in Savamala or near the 'splav' clubs if you want to sleep.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Honesty first: indoor smoking is still legal and common in many cafés and restaurants (Serbia's law exempts hospitality) — ask for a non-smoking section or sit outside; it matters for families. Halal restaurants are limited but present in the center (search ahead). Taxis: refuse strangers' offers at the airport and take the fixed-price voucher from the official 'TAXI' desk in arrivals, or use the CarGo/Yandex app on the meter. The Serbian dinar (RSD) is the currency; cards are accepted, but carry cash for small places, and exchange in the city rather than the airport.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: No metro in Belgrade. Public transport (bus, tram, and trolleybus, the GSP network) has been completely free since January 2025 — the largest European city to do this, and it covers visitors too, no card or ticket needed. Paid exceptions: the A1 airport express bus (~400 RSD) and E-series express minibuses (~200 RSD). Taxi apps CarGo and Yandex Go run on the meter and are recommended over airport touts.
Halal & prayer places: Bajrakli Mosque in the Dorćol district is Belgrade's only surviving functioning mosque (of roughly 273 under Ottoman rule), with daily prayers held. Around a dozen halal or halal-friendly restaurants cluster nearby — most notably Afifa Halal Food, right outside the mosque. No official halal-certification body exists in Serbia, so labeling is community-verified rather than government-certified — double-check before fully relying on it.
