🏨Where to stay
The old town around Liberty Square is the best walkable base with everything nearby. Near Petrovaradin Fortress suits EXIT festival-goers (book very early for the June–July season). Options are less varied and generally cheaper than Belgrade.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Book hotels months ahead if visiting during EXIT festival — prices double and rooms sell out. Halal options are very limited compared to Belgrade, so it's worth packing a meal or planning a combined Belgrade–Novi Sad itinerary to draw on the bigger city's options.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The historic center (Zmaj Jovina street, Liberty Square) is compact and fully walkable. The local JGSP bus network (~89 routes) is useful for the outskirts, not downtown. Petrovaradin Fortress is a 15–25 minute walk across the pedestrian Varadin Bridge, or bus lines 3/9. The Belgrade–Novi Sad high-speed Soko train takes ~36 minutes for ~661 RSD.
Halal & prayer places: No mosque in the touristic city center, but a functioning musallah exists in the Adamovićevo Naselje district (since 1979) plus another on Futoška street — Novi Sad is the seat of the Novi Sad Muftiship for the Vojvodina region. The Muslim community is present (Bosniak, Albanian, Roma) but away from visitor areas. Halal options are few and scattered (e.g., Ćevabdžinica UMA, Kralj Doner) — far thinner than Belgrade and not near the sights.
