Al Ain

October–April, when temperatures ease into a comfortable 18–30°C range for oasis walks, outdoor time, and the Jebel Hafeet drive. Avoid June–September, when daytime highs hit 45–50°C. Late October/mid-November brings the Al Qattara Traditional Handicrafts Festival.

• The Jebel Hafeet mountain road — 60 hairpin turns and panoramic views over the city and the Oman border
• Al Ain Oasis, the UAE's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its dense palm groves and traditional falaj irrigation channels
• Al Ain Zoo and the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, one of the best-value family attractions in the country
• Al Jahili Fort, a historic 19th-century fort with permanent and rotating exhibitions
• The traditional Camel Souk, one of the last working camel markets left in the UAE
• Al Ain National Museum and Qasr Al Muwaiji, both near the Oasis
• Green Mubazzarah's natural hot springs
• Hili Fun City and Hili Archaeological Park (also UNESCO-listed) for families

Families: hotels near Hili Mall (Four Points by Sheraton, Hili Rayhaan by Rotana), close to Hili Fun City and family amenities. Quiet/oasis-side stays: Ayla Grand Hotel or Radisson Blu Al Ain, near the National Museum and Al Ain Oasis. Budget: downtown hotels near the Central Market, cheaper and close to the bus station.

Al Ain is more conservative than Dubai — modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is expected almost everywhere, not just traditional souks. The Camel Souk is male-dominated and traditional; ask before photographing traders or animals up close, and small tips are sometimes expected for photos or camel rides. Summer heat is severe — visit the Oasis or Jebel Hafeet early morning or just before sunset. Don't count on the summit café at Jebel Hafeet being open; it's often closed or under renovation, so bring water and snacks. Self-driving or taxis beat walking between sights — distances in Al Ain are larger than they look on a map.

Suggested plan:

1. Day 1: Al Ain Oasis, National Museum, and Al Jahili Fort in the morning; Qasr Al Muwaiji after, then relax downtown in the evening.
2. Day 2: Al Ain Zoo and Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre in the morning; Jebel Hafeet drive in the afternoon for sunset at the summit.
3. Day 3 (optional): Camel Souk early morning, then Hili Fun City or Hili Archaeological Park for families, and Green Mubazzarah hot springs to unwind.
