🗓️Best time to visit

April–October is best for climbing the Lion's Mound and viewing the open battlefield; June sometimes sees battle-reenactment events near the anniversary.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • The Lion's Mound and its panoramic battlefield view
  • Napoleon's last-headquarters museum and personal relics
  • The Wellington Museum (the British commander's HQ)
  • Over 130 monuments and memorials scattered across the field

🏨Where to stay

A single day trip from Brussels genuinely suits it best — there's no need to stay overnight in Waterloo.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Use Braine-l'Alleud station, not Waterloo, to reach the battlefield site directly — the difference saves a significant walk.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: Bus W or 365 from Brussels-South is the cheapest, simplest option (a day ticket ~€8 covers all travel). A train from Brussels-South, Central or North runs roughly every half hour; Braine-l'Alleud station is actually closer to the battlefield itself (~2.4 km) than Waterloo station. The Lion's Mound and Napoleon's Museum sit away from Waterloo town centre, so a bus or car is needed between the sites.

Halal & prayer places: Essentially none within Waterloo town itself — a small town visited for a day with no notable declared halal restaurants; eating in Brussels before or after the visit is advisable.

Local safety: Same as country →

Cost figures: 2026 prices: a day bus ticket from Brussels ~€8, combined Lion's Mound + underground museum entry ~€19-24 adult, Napoleon's Museum (his last headquarters) a small separate fee.
