Višegrad
The heritage Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge over the Drina River
A city of Bosnia and Herzegovina
🗓️Best time to visit
Spring and autumn for the bridge's most photogenic light; summer is best for the river boat ride.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- The UNESCO-listed Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge
- The modern-built Andrićgrad ethno-town
- A boat ride on the Drina River
- The panoramic viewpoint from the hill opposite the bridge
🏨Where to stay
A small town with limited overnight options — most Gulf visitors see it as a Sarajevo day trip rather than staying over.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Climb the hill opposite the bridge for the best panoramic shot combining the bridge, the river, and the town.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: No airport — usually visited from Sarajevo (~2.5–3 hrs by bus or car) as a single day trip or a transit stop toward Serbia (near the border). Both the bridge and Andrićgrad are within walking distance of the town center.
Halal & prayer places: Very thin — the town is majority Orthodox, and local restaurants specialize in Drina River trout with no declared halal awareness. There's no known active mosque in the town itself and no notable halal scene — plan on fish/vegetarian meals or bring provisions.
Local safety: Same as country →
Cost figures: 2026 prices: a short tourist boat ride €5–10 per person, a trout meal 15–25 KM. The Sarajevo–Višegrad bus runs roughly 20–25 KM.
