🗓️Best time to visit

Saturday mornings catch the market in full life; town winds down after four and sleeps on Sunday.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • Sir Selwyn Clarke Market

  • Arul Mihu Hindu temple and the mosque steps apart
  • The Botanical Gardens and their giant tortoises

🏨Where to stay

Real stays are outside it — Beau Vallon ten minutes away is the better base; in-town guesthouses suit a transit night.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Give it half a day at most and keep the rest for beaches; carry small cash for the market — vendors don't take cards.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: The whole town walks in an hour — the clock tower anchors everything. Airport taxi ~$15–20 (10 minutes). The blue public buses are very cheap (~$0.5) and cover all of Mahé at a lovely crawl.

Halal & prayer places: The country's highest thanks to the Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalid Mosque and small eateries around it — options are limited but real, and the market sells fresh fish your stay can cook.

Local safety: Same as country →

Cost figures: 2026 prices: Creole lunch $12–25, market fish ~$5–10, National History Museum ~$3, public bus ~$0.5.
