The Hague

Mid-May to mid-September is best: warm weather (19-22°C), long evening daylight, and Scheveningen beach at its liveliest. April-May is a strong second pick — fewer crowds, pleasant spring air. Winter is cold, wet, and dark early, best avoided if beach and park time matter to your plan.

• Day trip to nearby Delft - the famous blue-pottery town with its quiet canals

Family: the quiet Statenkwartier district near museums and parks, or around Den Haag HS station within walking distance of most sights. Couples: the old city center around Lange Voorhout, elegant and close to the Mauritshuis and Binnenhof. Budget: around Den Haag Centraal station with fast tram access everywhere and easy proximity to halal-rich Schilderswijk.

Weather is changeable even in summer - pack layers and a rain jacket. Bike lanes have near-absolute priority on the street - never walk or stand in them, they're more dangerous to pedestrians than cars. Mauritshuis and Madurodam tickets need advance timed online booking, especially in peak summer - waiting till arrival means long queues or sold-out slots. The city is calmer and less crowded than Amsterdam, comfortable for families, but that also means some shops close earlier than in the capital. Public restrooms are scarce and mostly paid (~4-8 SAR) - use cafe and museum facilities. Don't assume every restaurant with a Middle Eastern-sounding name is actually halal - always verify or stick to confirmed-halal spots in Schilderswijk or a trusted halal app.

1. Day 1: Mauritshuis Museum, the Binnenhof, and a stroll through the old center around Lange Voorhout
2. Day 2: Peace Palace tour in the morning (book ahead), then Scheveningen beach and pier in the afternoon
3. Day 3: Madurodam in the morning with the kids, then a half-day trip to nearby Delft, or Panorama Mesdag and Escher in The Palace for art lovers
