🗓️Best time to visit
April–June and September–October; golden pre-sunset light is Registan's hour.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- The Registan (by day and lit at night)
- Shah-i-Zinda's blue corridor
- Gur-e-Amir
- Bibi-Khanym mosque and Siyob bazaar
- Ulugh Beg's observatory
🏨Where to stay
Guesthouses near the Registan are the right call — home breakfasts and hosts who treat you as kin, not custom.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Shah-i-Zinda is a working sacred necropolis: full modesty, low voices. Beyond the monument axes the city is entirely ordinary — set expectations: scattered jewels, not Bukhara's continuous museum town.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The big sights (Registan, Bibi-Khanym, Shah-i-Zinda) sit within walks or a tiny-fare Yandex Go hop (no metro here). The Afrosiyob fast train links Tashkent (2h) and Bukhara (1.5h) — book days ahead, it sells out.
Halal & prayer places: Halal is effectively default at local restaurants (Muslim country); tourist-hotel restaurants may serve alcohol at neighboring tables — ask for a family corner if that bothers you. Small prayer rooms sit near the major sites and working mosques in every district.
Local safety: Same as country →
Cost figures: Approx. 2026 prices: in-town Yandex Go UZS 10–25k, Registan ticket ~UZS 65k, Shah-i-Zinda ~UZS 40k, generous plov meal UZS 40–80k, Afrosiyob to Tashkent UZS 120–240k by class.
