Sakaka
The Rajajil standing stones — 'Arabia's Stonehenge' — and Al-Jouf olives
A city of Saudi Arabia
✈️ First 24 Hours
Al-Jouf airport (Sakaka) links Riyadh and Jeddah daily; rent at the airport — there's no practical alternative.
🗓️Best time to visit
October–April; Al-Jouf winters get cold with occasional night frost.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- The Rajajil columns
- Zaabal castle and Sisra well
- Dumat al-Jandal: Omar mosque, Al-Dar'i quarter, Marid castle
- Olive farms and the November pressing season
🏨Where to stay
Sakaka hotels are simple and few (SAR 180–400) — calibrate expectations.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Rajajil access sometimes needs Heritage-Commission pre-arrangement — verify before flying. Frankly: this is for pure history lovers; family entertainment is minimal and two days fully suffice.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: Rent at Al-Jouf airport — no alternatives. Roads are excellent and empty; Dumat al-Jandal and Rajajil sit on opposite axes, so plan the day geographically.
🏨 Where do Gulf travelers stay?: Central Sakaka: the castle, services, the limited hotels. Dumat al-Jandal (45 min): the historic town and its lake — visited, rarely slept in.

Cost figures: Hotels SAR 180–400. Heritage sites charge token or no fees. Al-Jouf olive oil direct from farms runs SAR 30–60 for a premium bottle — the right gift from here.
