Getting around: The historic center is mostly walking; the two metro lines serve the Vatican and Colosseum, tickets covering bus and tram too. Taxis from official ranks or FreeNow — station 'helpers' are not licensed drivers.
Halal & prayer places: Decent options cluster around Termini and the Esquilino quarter — Bengali, Egyptian and Middle Eastern kitchens; the Grand Mosque (Western Europe's largest) sits north on metro B.
Local safety: Rome is generally safe, but organized pickpocketing is its main issue — the key hotspots are Termini station, Metro Line A (especially the Termini–Spagna stretch), the packed 64 and 40 buses, plus the crowds at the Trevi Fountain and Colosseum. Carry your bag in front and avoid the most crowded carriages.
