✈️ First 24 Hours
From KKIA: Uber/Careem (~SAR 50–70 to downtown, 30–40 min). SIMs in arrivals (STC/Zain) or eSIM pre-arrival. Exchange rates are better in town. Download Careem and the Darb metro app.
🗓️Best time to visit
October–March: perfect weather and Riyadh Season in full swing. Summer is very hot and indoor-only.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- Historic Diriyah and Bujairi Terrace — birthplace of the Saudi state
- Boulevard City and the entertainment zones in season
- National Museum and Masmak Fort
- Edge of the World (unmissable winter desert trip)
- Souq Al Zal for heritage, oud and carpets
🏨Where to stay
Olaya and Al Malqa for modern hotels near dining and towers; Diplomatic Quarter and Diriyah for calmer upscale stays.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Book weekend restaurants and events ahead — everything fills. Distances are big: use a car or ride apps, and dodge rush hours (7–9am, 4–7pm).
📍 On the ground
Getting around: Riyadh Metro (6 lines) covers Olaya, KAFD and the airport — clean, punctual, and the Darb card works on buses too. Beyond its lines: Uber/Careem/Bolt everywhere. Distances are big and the sun harsh — never plan to 'walk between districts'.
🏨 Where do Gulf travelers stay?: Olaya and Al Malqa: hotels, towers, fine dining. Hittin and Al Narjis: Boulevard City and Season venues. Diriyah/At-Turaif: heritage and terrace cafés. Downtown (Batha/Deerah): Masmak fort and Souq Al Zal — daytime territory.
