Mid-May to late June, or mid-September through October — warm 20-28°C days with sea comfortable enough for swimming, and noticeably thinner crowds and lower prices than the scorching, packed July-August peak.

Families: the Ialysos/Ixia area or Faliraki resorts near the big water park. Couples: the Old Town for romantic atmosphere, or car-free hilltop Lindos despite its steep walking. Budget travelers: Ixia or Kallithea apartments, mid-priced and well-connected.

Watch for inflated bills at some Old Town bars/restaurants with no visible price list — always ask prices before ordering. Rent a car for a day or two to reach inland castles and villages, since buses outside town run infrequently. July-August is very hot and crowded, so book well ahead if traveling then. Bring a hat and plenty of water for the sun-exposed climb up Lindos Acropolis. Book the Symi ferry in advance during summer — it's a popular day trip. Carry a personal prayer mat, since dedicated visitor prayer spaces are scarce outside the historic mosques.

1. Day 1: Arrive and settle in, then an evening walk through the Old Town and Palace of the Grand Master
2. Day 2: Full day in Lindos — climb the Acropolis and relax on Lindos Beach
3. Day 3: Rent a car to explore inland — Kritinia Castle, Butterfly Valley, and wine tasting near Embonas
4. Day 4: Fast-ferry day trip to Symi island
5. Day 5 (optional): Relaxed day at family-friendly Tsambika Beach and last-minute shopping in the New Town
