🗓️Best time to visit

June–September for warm weather and the summer music festival; December–February for genuinely European winter atmosphere (Quebec Winter Carnival in February) despite the severe cold.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • The iconic Château Frontenac (the world's most photographed hotel)
  • The old town's walls (UNESCO, the only fortified city north of Mexico)
  • The Citadelle of Québec and its changing of the guard
  • The French-flavored Petit Champlain quarter
  • Montmorency Falls (taller than Niagara) just outside town

🏨Where to stay

Inside the walls (Vieux-Québec) — the European atmosphere is worth the premium.

⚠️Tips & warnings

French dominates even more here than in Montreal — basic phrases open real doors specifically in this city.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: The entire old town walks on foot, and the funicular links the upper and lower towns for $5 one-way. From Jean Lesage Airport: a taxi to downtown runs ~$34, or a public bus ~$3.25 (~20 minutes).

Halal & prayer places: Limited but genuine — 23 verified halal restaurants (Lebanese, Moroccan and Mediterranean feature prominently) and a handful of mosques, chiefly Mosquée de la Capitale, Mosquée Al-Rahma and the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec. Much smaller than Montreal or Ottawa.

Local safety: Same as country →

Cost figures: 2026 prices: Citadelle admission $18, Château Frontenac guided tour $25, funicular $5 one-way, casual meal $12–20.
