Nuremberg
A Bavarian medieval city — a perfectly preserved old square, famous Christmas markets, and a castle
A city of Germany
🗓️Best time to visit
December for the world-famous Christmas markets (very crowded); May–June and September–October for better weather and fewer crowds.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- The perfectly preserved medieval old town — complete city walls and market square (Hauptmarkt)
- Nuremberg Castle (Nürnberg Burg) — views over the entire city
- Frauenkirche — the Gothic church dominating the central square
- Christmas markets (December only) — Bavaria's largest Christmas market
- Pegnitz River — riverside walks and sightseeing boats
🏨Where to stay
The old town (within the walls) is the best base — totally central and intimate. Prices are reasonable compared to Munich.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Walk the city walls (Stadtmauer) — about 5 km of complete wall walk with historical views. If visiting in December expect huge crowds but magical atmosphere.
