🗓️Best time to visit

April–September is best for the citadel park and cable car; it pairs well with Dinant in a single day.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • Namur Citadel and its view over the Sambre-Meuse confluence
  • The underground passages (Europe's longest within a citadel)
  • The panoramic cable car
  • The small historic centre and its festivals

🏨Where to stay

The historic centre near the station is enough for a day or single night before or after Dinant.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Combine Namur and Dinant in a single day trip by train (~15-20 minutes apart) — both sit on the Meuse and complement each other.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: A direct train from Brussels takes ~1 hour. A cable car climbs to the citadel (€5 one-way, €7.50 return), plus local TEC buses (~€2.50-3 a ticket). The citadel itself is a free public park year-round, and the town around it is fairly compact and walkable.

Halal & prayer places: Relatively limited — a small Walloon city with few declared halal options (a handful of halal shawarma and burger spots near the station). Don't expect Brussels-level density, but it's enough for a day's meal.

Local safety: Same as country →

Cost figures: 2026 prices: the citadel cable car round trip €7.5, underground-passage + visitor centre packages €20-32 depending on group size, a local bus ticket ~€2.50-3, a casual meal €10-15.
