⚠️Tips & warnings
French is genuinely the primary language here (unlike Toronto or Vancouver) — simple phrases are appreciated, and while English is understood touristically, it isn't the default.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: The STM metro (4 lines), buses, and the newer REM system cover the city well; a single fare is $3.75 with a free 90-minute transfer, a day pass is $11 ($22 for 3 days). Montréal-Trudeau Airport connects via the direct 747 bus to downtown (~$11, 45–60 minutes).
Halal & prayer places: A diverse, genuine halal scene — 123 verified halal restaurants and 44 mosques/prayer spaces per Zabihah, spanning Afghan, Lebanese, Pakistani and Moroccan cuisine. The Muslim community is large and well-established (As-Salam Mosque and the Aisha Islamic Center are among the most prominent).
