Family: Oberseeburg area near the Swiss Transport Museum — lake beach, open-air pools, quiet residential feel that suits kids. Couples: Old Town or lakefront near Chapel Bridge — romantic views, everything within walking distance. Budget: Tribschen district — apartments and hostels at gentler prices while staying close to the lake and center.

The most repeated warning is about restaurants sitting right on or near Chapel Bridge — inflated prices are a recurring complaint (a plain pasta plate over 160 SAR); walk a few streets into the Old Town for the same quality at a saner price. Most Old Town shops and restaurants close by around 8pm, so plan dinner early. Book Pilatus or Rigi tickets online in advance, especially in summer, and check the summit weather/cloud forecast first — fog can waste a full-price ticket's view. If you're doing multiple mountains or lots of trains/boats, a Swiss Travel Pass is worth the math. Finally, the lanes near the bridge get swarmed by tour buses at midday, so visiting at sunrise or before 9am gives noticeably calmer photos and streets.
