🗓️Best time to visit

May–September is best for the riverside Sunday market and terraces; winter is cold and grey, typical of inland Belgium.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • The architectural Liège-Guillemins station
  • The Sunday flea market along the Meuse
  • The Montagne de Bueren staircase (373 steps)
  • The artsy historic Outremeuse district

🏨Where to stay

Near the central station or the historic centre suits first-time visitors and quick train access.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Visit the Sunday market early before the crowds; the 373-step staircase is tiring but the summit view is worth it.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: The striking Calatrava-designed Liège-Guillemins station links high-speed trains from Brussels (~1 hour), Paris and Cologne. TEC buses and trams cover the city, a single ticket ~€2.50-3. Part of the centre is walkable; the hillier quarters need a bus.

Halal & prayer places: A large Muslim community (among Belgium's biggest) with several mosques (Assafa, Al-Mouwahidine, Al I'tissam, the Islamic Center and others) and Moroccan/Mediterranean halal restaurants, though fewer and less widely reviewed than in Brussels or Antwerp. Liège's famous Sunday flea market along the Meuse (Belgium's biggest) is a good social gathering point.
