Full guideLast updated: 14/07/2026

🗓️Best time to visit

December–February and June–August are driest and most walkable.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • Uganda National Mosque and its minaret view over the seven hills
  • The Uganda National Museum
  • The Kasubi Royal Tombs (UNESCO)
  • The bustling Owino market
  • The historic Muslim Kibuli quarter

🏨Where to stay

Kololo and Nakasero for calm international hotels; Old Kampala and Kibuli for proximity to the mosque and dense halal dining.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Book your Entebbe transfer through the hotel exclusively in advance — the airport road carries officially documented carjacking incidents, especially in the evening.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: Uber and Bolt run efficiently within the city. Traffic is choking at peak hours (always budget an extra hour). Transfer from Entebbe airport (37km) should be pre-arranged through your hotel, not a street taxi.

Halal & prayer places: The country's highest — Old Kampala around the National Mosque and the Kibuli quarter brim with declared halal restaurants and documented Islamically slaughtered meat.

Local safety: Same as country →

Cost figures: 2026 prices: Uganda National Mosque tour ~$10 (includes the minaret climb), the Uganda National Museum ~$5, downtown hotels $50–150/night, in-city Uber $2–6.
