Medini near LEGOLAND suits families with young kids; City Square/JB Sentral downtown is central for the mosque, shopping and border crossers; Danga Bay offers a waterfront setting with relative calm.

Halal is effectively the default here, as across Malaysia, so relax on that front. Avoid informal parking lots run by a person in an orange vest near malls and border zones — they often precede an official fine; use mall basements or clearly marked bays only. At taxi stands near the border, insist on the meter or book Grab with upfront pricing rather than agreeing to a flat verbal fare. Friday and Sunday evenings are the heaviest crossing times on the Causeway due to Singaporean commuter traffic, so plan your border timing around them. Treat Desaru Coast as its own separate day trip since it sits over an hour from the city centre.
