Hawar Islands
A protected archipelago near the Qatar border, home to one of the world's largest Socotra cormorant colonies
A city of Bahrain
🗓️Best time to visit
October–April is best (calmer seas, cooler weather); tours are often limited to specific days or advance demand — check the sailing schedule before planning, since it's weather-dependent.
📸Top activities & landmarks
- The Socotra cormorant breeding colony (seasonal)
- Secluded, unspoiled beaches
- Snorkeling and kayaking
- A rare chance to spot dugongs
🏨Where to stay
No town or permanent hotels — this is a pure day trip, with a seasonal eco-resort day-pass operation near the marina on a limited basis. Return to Manama by evening.
⚠️Tips & warnings
Book several days ahead, and confirm the sailing time the morning of, since it's weather-dependent. Bring backup water and food, as on-site facilities are very limited.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: Boat access only — day tours depart from Durrat Al Bahrain marina (about a 45-minute drive south of Manama, then roughly 45 minutes by boat). There's no public transit or independent access; booking through a tour operator (such as Bahrain Marine Sports Club) is required, often weekends-only or advance-booking-only.
Halal & prayer places: There's no meaningful permanent restaurant or mosque scene — the islands are barely inhabited touristically. Tours typically include pre-arranged meals that are halal by default; don't expect local food options on-site.
Local safety: Same as country →
Cost figures: 2026 prices: national park entry runs roughly BHD 2–4, a round-trip boat runs about BHD 11–19, and full-day packages with lunch, bikes and kayaks run up to around BHD 20 per person — these are approximate and operator/season-dependent, so verify directly before booking.
