⚠️Tips & warnings
Guangzhou is China's easiest city for halal food thanks to its large Arab and African community — worry far less here than in other Chinese cities. Check Canton Fair dates before planning: hotels sell out and prices double.
📍 On the ground
Getting around: Metro Line 3 from Baiyun International Airport reaches Tiyu Xilu (Tianhe) in ~45–60 minutes for a ¥7–10 fare — the fastest, cheapest option. An extensive metro network covers every sight, and a major high-speed rail hub links directly to Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Halal & prayer places: Among the deepest in China, historically and today. Huaisheng Mosque (627 AD, believed founded by a companion of the Prophet, one of the world's oldest mosques with its glowing 36m minaret) on Guangta Road anchors a genuinely living Muslim quarter with halal Lanzhou noodle shops and Middle Eastern restaurants serving a large resident Arab and African trading community. Xiaobei Road in Yuexiu district buzzes with Hui and Uyghur eateries (kebab, pilaf), Pakistani biryani houses, and Nigerian jollof rice spots.

Cost figures: 2026 prices: typical metro fare ¥7–10, a casual meal in the Xiaobei quarter ¥20–40, mid-range hotel $50–100/night. Avoid booking during Canton Fair seasons (roughly April and November) — prices spike and the city runs fully booked.
