📸Top activities & landmarks

  • The famous Blue Hole (expert divers only)
  • Beautiful coral reefs and colorful fish
  • Steady winds for windsurfing and kitesurfing
  • Laid-back bohemian life with guesthouses and beach bars
  • International community of divers and travelers

🏨Where to stay

Simple, cheap, family-run guesthouses — that's part of the charm. Small beachfront hotels.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Blue Hole is not for beginners — fair warning. Winds vary — ask locals. You'll see the same faces every day — it's a tiny community.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: Very small — you can walk most of it. Local taxis are cheap (EGP 50–100) or actual camel rides (slow and charming). From Sharm El Sheikh (1h) by shared taxi or car (~EGP 100–150). From Sharm airport (~90 min): shared taxi ~EGP 150–200 or resort transfer.

Halal & prayer places: Halal is default in local eateries. The concentration of foreign divers and tourists from non-Muslim countries means some beach bars openly serve alcohol. Main restaurants are halal, but you'll find Western-style beach bars with alcohol — avoid them or choose simple local spots instead. A local mosque in town.

Local safety: Very safe — a tight-knit, friendly community. Avoid the Blue Hole if you're not an experienced technical diver — it is genuinely dangerous (multiple fatalities among the inexperienced). Tourism and peace are the norm.

Cost figures: 2026 prices: simple guesthouse EGP 150–250/night, casual meal EGP 50–100, single dive ~EGP 200–300, snorkel trip ~EGP 100, windsurfing/kitesurf lesson ~EGP 250–400, cafe drink EGP 20–40.
