🏨Where to stay

An overnight inside town is the real secret — after the day-trippers leave, it's yours alone.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Markt-square restaurants price for tourists — two streets away halves the bill. Halal is rare; many make do with frites, fish and sweets.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: The old town is small, flat, and entirely walkable — no internal transit is really needed. Brugge train station sits about 1.6 km from the Markt square, a 15-20 minute walk, or De Lijn buses (several lines including 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 reach near the centre; a ticket is ~€3, valid for a transfer within an hour). Frequent direct trains from Brussels (~1 hour) and Ghent (~25 minutes) make Bruges an easy day trip or short overnight.

Halal & prayer places: Rare compared to Brussels — Bruges isn't known as a halal destination. A small Muslim community exists with two modest mosques (Moskee Brugge and Moskee Arrahmane), both away from the tourist centre, and very few declared halal options (a handful of Indian, Lebanese and North African spots). Most Muslim visitors lean on seafood, frites and sweets (waffles, chocolate), which need no halal designation, rather than seeking out a dedicated halal restaurant.

Cost figures: 2026 prices: a De Lijn bus ticket ~€3, the Belfry climb (366 steps) ~€15 adult, the 30-minute canal boat tour €15 adult/€9 child, a meal right on the Markt costs noticeably more than one just two streets away.
