🗓️Best time to visit

May–June and September–October; summer is humid and packed, and queueing without pre-booking wastes whole days.

📸Top activities & landmarks

  • Sagrada Família — book a timed slot days ahead
  • Park Güell and its view (timed ticket too)
  • Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, Boqueria market
  • Casa Batlló and Casa Milà on Passeig de Gràcia
  • Beach: Barceloneta, or quieter Bogatell

🏨Where to stay

Eixample near Passeig de Gràcia is the smart pick (central, refined); avoid staying on La Rambla itself — noise and pickpockets.

⚠️Tips & warnings

Barcelona's pickpocketing is genuinely Europe's worst: nothing in back pockets ever, bag worn front on the metro and La Rambla. Catalan comes first here with a strong local identity — and it's pricier than Madrid.

📍 On the ground

Getting around: The metro covers everything on a T-casual (10 rides), with trams and buses filling gaps. Walk the Gothic Quarter, metro everywhere else. Uber/Bolt/Cabify all run; at the airport keep to the official taxi rank.

Halal & prayer places: El Raval is the halal-dense quarter (Moroccan, Pakistani and Middle Eastern kitchens steps off La Rambla), with scattered good options around Sagrada Família.

Local safety: Barcelona is Europe's undisputed pickpocketing capital, though violent crime against tourists is rare. Worst hotspots: La Rambla (the continent's most-pickpocketed street), the Gothic Quarter, Plaça de Catalunya, the Boqueria market and around the Sagrada Família, plus metro lines L1, L3 and L5 at rush hour. Never use back pockets, and wear your bag in front in crowds.

Cost figures: Approx. 2026 prices: T-casual ~EUR 12 (10 rides), Sagrada Família from ~EUR 26, Park Güell ~EUR 10, Casa Batlló from ~EUR 29, mid-range meal EUR 15–35 per person.
